A Career of Leadership and Intergity
David Kenani Maraga has spent more than four decades in public service and the law, building a reputation as one of Kenya's most principled and respected leaders. Born in Nyamira County, he studied law at the University of Nairobi before practising as an advocate for over 25 years. His career on the bench culminated in his appointment as Kenya's 14th Chief Justice and President of the Supreme Court, where he became known for his unwavering commitment to the Constitution, judicial independence, and the rule of law.
Throughout his career, he has maintained a reputation for integrity, humility, and service, guided by a deep conviction that no individual or institution stands above the law.
As Chief Justice, Maraga presided over one of the most consequential periods in Kenya's constitutional history. He led the Supreme Court in the landmark 2017 decision that annulled a presidential election, the first ruling of its kind in Africa, affirming that democratic legitimacy depends on constitutional compliance rather than political power.
He also advised the dissolution of Parliament for failing to implement the Constitution's two thirds gender principle, championed reforms that modernized the Judiciary through digitization and faster case management, and consistently defended the independence of the courts in the face of political pressure.
Across more than 1,250 judgments and numerous landmark decisions, his judicial philosophy reflected constitutional courage, procedural fairness, and a steadfast commitment to protecting the rights and dignity of every Kenyan.
Continued Activism
Since leaving the Judiciary, Maraga has continued to stand with the people of Kenya. He has spoken out against corruption, police brutality, environmental degragradation, human rights violations, impunity, and the abuse of public office. He has advocated for stronger public institutions, equal opportunity, environmental protection, devolution, and the rights and dignity of every Kenyan.
Answering the Call to Lead
The 2024 Kenya Gen Z protests against the Finance Bill, the rising cost of living, and the human rights violations that followed, including killings, abductions, and enforced disappearances, became a defining moment of reflection for Maraga. He was devastated by what he witnessed.
Young Kenyans, especially Gen Z, called on him to offer the leadership the country was yearning for. After deep introspection, he answered that call with one clear mission: to restore constitutional order, uphold the rule of law, and lead Kenya back to justice, integrity, and hope.
Maraga formally announced his candidacy in mid 2025 and has since embarked on a nationwide jourto listen to Kenyans, understand their hopes and challenges, and build a people driven movement of Ukombozi-deliverance. Guided by the vision to Reset, Restore and Rebuild Kenya, the movement is committed to renewing the nation's promise through accountable leadership, justice, and shared prosperity.
As he travelled across the country, listening to citizens in towns, villages, markets, universities, places of worship, and community forums, he encountered a nation weighed down by rising unemployment, a high cost of living, corruption, failing public services, insecurity, and a growing loss of faith in leadership.
These experiences convinced him that Kenya's challenges are not caused by a lack of talent or resources, but by a failure of leadership, integrity, and accountability.
It is this conviction that has led David Maraga to seek the Presidency of the Republic of Kenya. He believes that the country stands at a defining moment and that its future depends on restoring trust in public leadership and returning government to its constitutional purpose of serving the people. He offers a style of leadership rooted in honesty, justice, competence, and accountability.
A Vision for Kenya
Maraga's presidency is guided by his philosophy of Utakatiba Ndio Tiba -constitutionalism as the anchor of good governance. He believes that public office is a sacred trust, that every public shilling must be protected, that every Kenyan deserves equal treatment before the law, and that government should create an environment where enterprise, innovation, education, and hard work can flourish.
His vision is of a Kenya where institutions are stronger than individuals, where young people can build successful lives at home, where every region shares fairly in national development, and where future generations inherit a country that is more united, prosperous, and just than the one we know today.
David Maraga is contesting the presidency on the ticket of the United Green Movement (UGM) Party, a party whose vision of constitutionalism, social justice, environmental stewardship, democratic governance, and accountable leadership closely reflects the principles that have guided his entire career.
Maraga chose the United Green Movement, because it is one of the few political parties in Kenya whose ideology genuinely aligns with his lifelong commitment to the rule of law, human rights, integrity in public service, and respect for the Constitution. The party's vision of building a united, peaceful, and prosperous Kenya where every citizen lives with dignity and opportunity reflects the future he believes is possible for our country.
A call to all Kenyans
This campaign is an invitation to every Kenyan who believes that our nation can be governed with honesty, competence, and integrity. It is a call to young people seeking opportunity, to workers and entrepreneurs striving for a fair economy, to families longing for security and justice, and to every citizen who believes that the Constitution must be more than words on paper.
David Maraga invites all Kenyans to support this campaign, and help build a Kenya where public service is defined by accountability, leadership is measured by character, and every generation can look to the future with confidence and hope.
